Solar Energy for rural Kenya (Short Version)

The Global Nature Fund, together with its project partners Osram, Light for Life and Thames Electricals Ltd., implemented the EU and Siemens Stiftung funded project “Solar Energy for rural Kenya“. At eight installed, solar-powered energy stations, so called “Water-Energy-Hubs” (WE!Hubs), residents of off-grid areas in the West of the country near the Lake Victoria can rent environmentally friendly, battery-powered luminaires and LED lanterns – predominantly used for lake fishing, household lighting and in small shops – for a modest fee. Additionally, they can obtain in the WE!Hubs purified drinking water, surf the internet, charge their mobile phones or attend training and mentoring programs on entrepreneurship.
