Voltage Transformer Purchasing Guide:
Prior to purchasing a voltage transformer, in order to avoid users’ frustrations and unnecessary returns, it is imperative to check and verify what your appliance’s Maximum Power Consumption (MPC) is, which could be located on the device’s nameplate or included in its user instruction. The appliance’s MPC must be less than this transformer’s Maximum Load Capacity (MLC), or it will NOT work. For safety concerns and optimal results, the manufacturer recommends that the transformer’s MLC should be equal or greater than your appliance’s MPC multiplied by 1.5. For example, if you have an appliance rated at 100 watts, you will need to choose a transformer with a maximum power of 150 watts or greater.
If your appliance has it power consumption rated in Amps, which could be easily converted to watts by using the following formula: Watts = Volts X Amps. For example, if your European espresso maker is 220 volts and 7.5 amps, then its power consumption will be 1,650 watts. Or if your appliance has a motor, such as a treadmill, whose power is rated in horsepower, please keep it in mind that 1 horsepower is approximately equal to 746 watts.
In addition, for an appliance that generates an in-rush current for a brief time to start from idle, such as a refrigerator, an air conditioner, or a laser printer, the in-rush current could be 3-7 times as much as what is required for normal operation. Please choose a voltage transformer with enough MLC to accommodate the power surge.
