Toxic Land Generates Solar Energy

Solar & Wind EBooks

January 9, 2013—New Jersey is turning eyesores into solar farms. The U.S. state has become a leader in solar energy capacity. Energy from the sun now comes from contaminated land not suitable for development.

  1. A very good flick. Being  person who has seen oil embargo's during the past, I've been an endorser of solar energy since the middle '70's. I'd personally love watching solar energy crush oil and coal as most of our primary source of energy.

Hi! Have you tried – Maxim Earth 4 Energy (do a search on google)? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my GF got excellent results with it.

so basicly all of texas has to be covered with these panels;)

Thanks for conservation helps out the environment a lot. It can help stop global warming.

  8. Europe is already doing this on an massive scale and its not expensive.

  9. You should change your first name to Kenny.

  10. As oil goes up solar gets cheaper every year.

An amazing idea, hopefully it will catch on.

Are brownfields as racist as they sound? Jking.

  13. Fishing_4_U says:

The solar industry uses "per Hour" as the standard unless stated otherwise. Thus 1 megawatt implies production of 1 megawatt of power in a one hour period. Of course, this is under ideal conditions….sun pointing directly at the panels, in spring or fall…more power is generated at these cooler temps.

  15. Petroleum can be burned out of the soil and/or to have bacteria absorb the contamination.

  18. Han Chen says:

megawatt is power unit, not an energy unit. It is equal to 1 mega Joules per second. There is no day, week or month involved.
I assume 1 megawatt is the average energy output during the day.
Still, pretty awesome work they did there. Although, one thing they did not mention but was probably true: the brown land was cheap to purchase (because it was contaminated), reducing the cost of installation.

  19. 1 megawatt is its capacity – that is the power it would be generating if operating at top efficiency – sun shining at noon, good temperature etc. You then can measure how many megawatt hours the site generates over time. A megawatt hour is equal to 1,000 kilowatts of electricity used continuously for one hour. It is about equivalent to the amount of electricity used by about 330 homes during one hour.

  20. Jastin Paul says:

Is it 1 megawatt per day or a week or a month?

man we should throw the 7 people who disliked this out of earth in the space

  22. weber head says:

as soon as china starts making these panels for like 10 bux each
then the world will be full of panels everybody laughing with free lecky.
    good old chineze's (:

  23. ",,,gives a new meaning to 'one man's waste is another man's treasure'"

    No, it does not.

Nice to see this sort of thing in the U.S. We always assume that oil conquers all over there.

  24. Great video! I hoped for some discussion as to the efficiency of the solar panels, also Hurricane Sandy happened in October, not November.
