What batteries are you using and how many amp hours are they? Also I probably missed what size solar panel you are using. I was read Bob Solar blog. (Google it) and he swears by the meter and charger. However he says most folks under charge their batteries. I'm getting new Trojan T-105's in the next day or two. He says Trojan recommends setting your charge limit to 14.8 volts. You are a long way from even getting to a Gel or AGM float of around 14.2. Depends on manufacture. I replace the charge controller that came with my old trailer with one I thought was great. But after reading Bob' info I'm not so sure. I'm using one 150w panel (bought two but so far haven't needed the second one). Also he recommends the charge controller be installed by the batteries like you have done. Mine is like most others over the microwave. So I'll have a place to mount the meter lol.
This is a PWM controller, so it would compare about the same as any other PWM to MPPT. My opinion for applications of less than 500 watts of solar, PWM is fine. MPPT is more costly and you might be better served with an extra panel. Having said that, each application needs to be looked at individually. I have not tested with any ham equipment. I assume you are looking for RFI. I'm sure the design has reasonable filtering not to mention it located inside my aluminum trailer.
How does that charge controller work in comparison to MPPT controllers, I heard those were the most efficient. Have any of you used any HF ham radio equipment in the vicinity to this equipment? Any RFI? Thanks for posting all your great videos.
I have the TM-2030 RV with the SC-2030 charge controller and it's an excellent setup. The available configurations/options are like nothing else out there!
Tim, do you have to have a separate shunt to monitor the second battery?
