Wind Power Generators You Can Build

Wind power generators might, at first glance seem to be an extremely complicated issue, especially for the average homeowner who is interested in constructing something for energy savings. Actually, this could not be farther from the truth. With a little work and careful planning, it is possible to take advantage of the benefits that wind energy has to offer.

For the do-it-yourself homeowner, there are two important considerations that one must be aware of before looking to construct a home power generator: what are the electrical needs you have for your residence and whether there is enough wind available in your geographic area to make the generator a viable option for your power needs.

Fortunately, there are sites on the net that can help a homeowner better calculate the kind of power needs he is likely to have at home before purchasing a wind power generator for installation. Some factors that need to be taken into account include the total square footage of the home and the kind of appliances and electronics currently in use in the home. Once these needs are figured, you can now look to see what kind of wind power you will need to drive the appropriate generator for your needs.

Once you know what your power needs are likely to be, you can now consult with wind almanacs or other governmental charts that are available to the public to see if a wind power generator is feasible for the area that you live in. Fortunately, these charts are readily available to the public from government sites or through your local NOAA (National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration offices). These charts give the homeowner data such as what the average wind speed is for wind in a certain area, how many days a year the wind is likely to blow, etc. The current wind power generator technology is good enough that only a two mile an hour breeze is necessary to turn most wind turbines, making it a much more feasible an energy solution than solar power for many areas of the country (there are similar data charts available for those in Canada, a country that receives far less sunlight overall than the US).

After you have determined your overall power needs and what kind of wind energy is now available to you, you can now shop for the appropriate wind power generator to meet your needs. Current wind power generators come in more models than the stereotypical propeller type that everyone may think of when they first imagine them. The propeller variety often requires more space to operate due to the room necessary to turn them, but there are also models available that resemble a drum that turns horizontally (think of a round oatmeal box that has had fins cut in the side that can catch any breeze and turn the turbine horizontally) not to mention the older style used to pump water from wells in the old west that resembles a wheel with blades or a pinwheel.

Whichever wind power generator you choose to build for yourself, know that they are a good way to conserve on your energy costs. You not only generate what you need for yourself, but can sell back any extra to your local power company you make from your wind power generator.

Dogtown Farms basic 2 panel 2 battery 12 volt off grid solar installation powering aquaponics

In this video I show how to install and connect a basic, 2 solar panel and 2 battery, 12 volt, off grid solar system with 2500 watt inverter.

There are a million different methods and sizes of solar installations, but I feel this is an excellent “beginner” setup that has worked well for us so far. We are able to run the aquaponics 400 gallon per hour water pump, as well as the small aerator for the 250 gallon pond.

2x 158 watt solar panels, 12 volt.



Pair of solar Mc4 Connectors/combiners


These “combine” the two positive cables coming off the 2 solar panels into ONE WIRE.

These “combine” the two negative cables coming off the 2 solar panels into ONE WIRE.

Everything simply snaps together.


15 foot solar extension cables to run from the ” MC4 branch connectors/combiners” to the solar charge controller



You strip the ends of the solar extension wire, and inser them into the “solar” inputs on the charge controller.


Of course everything on the charge controller is secured with little flat head screws.

These 10 AWG cables connect the output of the charge controller, which is labeled “battery”…to the LEAD 12 volt battery.


Of course all connections to the batteries are made using loops and galvanized steel nuts, bolts, and washers available at any hardware store.

Shorter 10 AWG cables to connect the LEAD battery to the SECOND BATTERY.



Nice thick 2 AWG cables to connect the LEAD battery to the terminals on the inverter.



The inverter



Simply turn on the inverter, let it power up and tell you what voltage it’s running at, and then plug in a standard three prong cable to one of the outputs of the inverter. You simply run whatever device you need to run off that extension cable (assuming that there is enough charge in your batteries and the inverter is sized appropriately to the device.)

Solar Wind and Energy – Build Your Own Solar Panels and Wind Turbine for Energy

It is commonly known that solar wind and energy are rapidly becoming two of the most popular ways of generating free, renewable energy at home and it’s easy to understand why. Breaking free of the electric companies with their over inflated energy prices is just one reason and having more cash is another.

Yacht Wind Generators

This is one of my dream possessions, a yacht that is. If I get one I probably will install a yacht wind generator to charge my onboard batteries. You know the modern yachts now carry a lot of electronic equipment on board things like gps, radar and if you have autopilot that also needs power to run. If you are out on the sea you definitely can not stop and recharge your batteries. You could have solar panels installed but what if there's no sun. What do you do then? It makes sense then to have a marine wind generator installed on your yacht, so you can enjoy your ride to the fullest. Nowadays they now even have yacht wind generators that also double up as water generator which generates power by using the water to turn a propeller a the yacht moves. This is kind of like the old hydro electric plant design just on a smaller scale.

One of the most popular such generator is the Duo Gen. They recently released the newer model Duo Gen 2 which has some improvements on the older version, mostly just stronger fixtures and installations to make it more durable and therefore last you many yours to come.

Another type you could consider is the Air-X-Marine. This is a more intelligent generator that has an onboard micro processor to improve all the functions including overall performance, battery charging and the reduction of the annoying flatter noise that is common on most other brands. It also has a built in high wind safe mode that automatically slows down the generator down in high winds as well as the auto brake system that stops the wind generator when the batteries become fully charged. It comes with a full marine tower kit for easy mounting on any sailboat.

There's also the Ampair brand. They produce more heavy duty type marine wind generators. Their generators tend to be all weather proof make up which includes a sealed design which does not allow you any access into the units sensitive areas. You can get them in 3 different power outputs that is the Ampair 600, Ampair 300, and Ampair 100 micro wind turbine. There are other brands of yacht wind generators available on the market, but I thought I would just mention a few here to let you know that you do have a few choices to choose from. I guess your decision will be based on where you are going to be doing most of your sailing.

Solar and Wind Power Or Energy in the Eastern Africa Region

The Eastern Africa region comprises, among others countries like Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Somalia and Southern Sudan. The Eastern Africa region is by and large covered by arid or semi arid land. The region has some of the poorest countries in the world. All of them are third world countries.

The larger percentage of the inhabitants of the Eastern Africa region is poor rural folk. The Eastern Africa governments are not able to supply most of the rural areas with grid power. Also, most the utility companies in the Eastern Africa region are not reliable. There are frequent power blackouts and rationing. This makes it necessary for individuals or organizations to seek alternative sources of energy.

These alternative sources of energy allow rural folk or organizations to access power where grid power is not available. They also supply backup power to individuals and organizations when grid power fails.

There are several sources of alternative energy in East Africa. But we are going to concentrate on only two of them for now; solar and wind. We are going to concentrate on these two because they are the most available and easily installable here. The Eastern Africa region, as I said earlier is mostly arid or semi arid. The equator also passes right through the Eastern Africa region. The two facts I’ve mentioned above makes the area to experience sunlight throughout the year. The place also has large flat areas and highlands which make it an ideal place for wind power projects.

The Eastern Africa region has very many companies that supply solar and wind power solutions. When looking for a good company to install a solar or wind power system for you, you need to consider a number of factors. Most of the registered renewable energy companies here are merely briefcase entities without proven track records. Therefore you need to make sure you avoid them so that you don’t invest your money in a company that will not give you services worth your money. So, I advice you to invest your money in a an established company with a proven track record.

 Make sure the company is all rounded, it must be able to supply virtually all solar and wind power solutions. The company must also have a lot of experience, spanning many years in all fields of solar and wind power solutions provision. It must also be a company that has a very wide client base spanning the whole of the region, meaning that the company’s solutions are acceptable to most people in Eastern Africa. These clients must include Individuals, Businesses, Learning Institutions, Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs), governments etc The Company’s products and services must also be of very high quality and very competitively priced, leading to their high number of loyal clients from the whole of the region.

Most of the solar and wind power solutions sought by clients in the Eastern Africa region are divided in four sections; Services, Commercial and Industrial Systems, Residential Systems and Consumer Products.


There are four types of solar and wind power services,

Energy Auditing:

This involves identifying opportunities to reduce the energy use and/or the cost of operating a solar or wind power system in the clients’ premises whether its residential, commercial or industrial. Whether it’s a new construction or renovation their audit reports provide building owners the information they need to decide which of the recommended solar or wind power system or modification/s they should implement.

System Design:

This involves designing cost effective solar or wind power systems, which provide high rates of return. Their systems must be economical and designed to output maximum power at the least cost possible. They must be known to design systems that maximize the economics in all locations. Their designs must use innovative and practical approaches to utilize the many sunny and windy hours found in this part of the globe which are experienced daily all year round.

System Installation:

Its highly recommended that any Solar or Wind Power System installation be done by qualified technicians. Your chosen company must have qualified personnel who carry out the installation of Solar Power Systems. These technicians must have a lot of experience in solar and wind power systems installation as a result of carrying out the same work for a long period of time in virtually all areas of the Eastern Africa region.

System Maintenance:

The power company must be able to carry out maintenance visits where contracted. During these visits they must provide, among others where necessary, the following services:

  • Cleaning the module array
  • Checking all electrical connections
  • Logging lifetime and instantaneous power and energy output
  • Checking for any plant growth causing shading
  • Writing a report on system status and any corrective actions if necessary

Commercial and industrial systems

The company must have a wide selection of alternative energy powered commercial and industrial systems. I will list a few of them here that are most popular.

Lighting Systems:

They should be able to provide many types of lighting systems powered by either solar or wind including;

  • Home or Business Lighting
  • Street Lighting
  • Road, road studs and underground lighting
  • Garden and lawn lighting
  • Backup Systems

The company should be able to provide a full range of power backup systems that can be used to power critical loads and supply clean uninterrupted power to any home or office. These systems are based on battery-based storage systems. Besides being compatible with grid power, these systems should also be compatible with alternative energy like wind, solar, hydro, or even a generator. These systems will provide instant backup power in the event your utility grid fails. 

Electric Fencing:

The company should be a leading supplier of electric fencing solutions powered by solar or wind energy. When installing an electric fence they should start by figuring out where to place the fence charger. Then they should measure how far you need to run the electric fence. That would allow them to decide how powerful an electric fence you need. Then they should advice you on the right fence to purchase and lastly, get on with setting up the fence.

Water Pumping:

The company should be a leading supplier of water pumping systems that use solar or wind power. Their water pumping systems should be suited to both domestic and industrial uses.


They should stock refrigeration equipment powered by solar or wind energy. The solar refrigeration equipment they offer can be used in homes and organizations like health centers located in areas where grid power is not available.

Mobile Phone Charging Systems:

They should have in their stock Solar Mobile Phone Charging Systems. These systems are for use by businesses to charge multiple mobile phones at the same time. Single systems can charger 20 different mobile phones at the same time. The systems are best suited to rural areas for use in hotels, public places, shops, schools, government Institutions etc


The company should be able to provide solar or wind systems for provision of highly reliable remote power for distributed telecommunication applications. They should supply solutions that provide a competitive alternative to pure diesel systems that are increasingly under cost pressures due to rising fossil fuel costs, frequent servicing requirements and problems associated with increasing carbon emissions.

Wind Power Systems:

The company should be a leading supplier of wind power systems that let utility companies, homeowners and businesses generate their own clean power. Their turbines should also be suitable for use in off-grid homes, for rural electrification, and to boost the performance of solar electric systems. Wind power can be an excellent complement to a solar power system. In most locations wind is not suitable as the only source of power-it simply fills in the gaps left by solar power.

Residential Systems

Your chosen alternative energy company must be able to supply solar and wind power systems for use in residential systems. Among them are the following;

Rural Lighting:

The unavailability of the power grid in most rural areas implies that the electrical energy must be produced locally. The company should be able to advice their clients to produce the electricity using solar cells (photo-voltaic systems), which are by far the most universally applicable, and which they should therefore stock.

Water Heating:

Solar hot water systems use the sun’s energy to heat water in liquid-based solar collectors. A typical residential solar water-heating system minimizes the expense of electricity or fossil fuel to heat the water and reduces the associated negative environmental impacts. They sell two types of solar water heating systems, active and passive, but the most commonly bought are active systems. The company should be able to tell you this.

Solar Panels:

The two main uses of solar panels are to produce electricity and heat water. Solar panels designed to heat water are also known as thermal solar systems, while electricity-producing panels are sometimes called photovoltaic systems. The company should be able to stock all of the popular types of solar panels.

Consumer products

An renewable power company worth serving any client must be able to supply many consumer products, among them are the following;

Solar Battery Chargers:

They should be able to sell a wide selection of solar battery chargers for 12V lead-acid batteries, lithium-ion batteries for cameras, iPods, cell phones, PDAs, and chargers for AA/triple A C, D and 9V batteries.

Solar Lanterns:

In this region, a reputable alternative power company must have in its stock solar lanterns. This is because they are in high demand due the unavailability of grid power in most areas. Their solar lantern should consist of a solar panel that collects solar energy & stores it in the batteries. The lantern can be used in the evening to light homes.

Solar Mobile Phone Chargers:

Due to the unavailability of utility power, and the very high proliferation of mobile phones, a reputable alternative power company should be able to sell solar powered mobile phone chargers. These chargers are charged using solar panels and besides your mobile phone it can be used to charge your PDA, MP3, IPOD, CD player, gaming device and digital cameras. 

Solar Dynamo Radio:

In this region most of the people are poor and can’t afford expensive television sets. So most of them rely on radios for information, but still they have a problem of affording non rechargeable batteries for the radios. That leaves solar powered radios as the best alternative. And so a reputable solar power company should be stocking solar powered radios.

Solar Powered Torches:

A reliable company in this field should be able to sell solar torches chargeable by a solar panel; their very bright white LED’s produce a beam of brilliant white light. In a region with rampant poverty like East Africa, these torches come in very handy because they are designed for extremely long life with zero maintenance and zero or low part replacements during their entire life time.

Doing the Impossible: Balancing Good and Evil

Early in my youth I became fascinated by the prospect of actually doing what science said was impossible to do. I learned from both the empirical and theoretic versions of mathematics that there are an infinite number of points between any point A and any point B no matter how long or short the actual distance between the two. A proof of this is the hypothetical experiment that if I stand any distance from a wall and go only half the distance to it with each step, I should never actually get to the wall. Mathematically, this experiment is possible to conduct; Physically, it can not be done. However, we are all in the habit of "touching walls" without any thought about how to do it or spending any effort in accomplishing this familiar feat.

I can actually touch the wall at any time I choose no matter what distance I am from it when I begin my approach toward it. The math says I can not traverse infinity because infinity has no beginning or ending. However, the distance I cover between myself (A) and the wall (B), concluding an infinite number of points, indicates that what is finite can include what is infinite and that the infinite can be experienced within the finite. In other words, the two concepts, as commonly assumed, are not mutually exclusive. Each exists only in relationship to and as an integral part of the other.

Life is a Balancing Act

The human being, just as a coin, can only exist at the nexus of opposites. Heads and tails combine the coin and not merely one or the other. The one can not exist without the other. Everything physical as well as metaphysical is characterized and experienced as a combination in equal degree of opposing forces. On the cellular level, for example, atoms are composed of a central nucleus surrounded by electrons and positrons, which are elementary particles that have the same mass but opposite electrical charges. These particles counterbalance each other and identify the atom as a specific entity distinct from all other matter. Gravity, no matter how scientifically explained, is nothing more than the unseen force that pulls against that which pulls against it. The magnetic force is simply the equilibrium between positive and negative poles that are aligned exactly opposite each other.

"Who Knows What Evil Lurks in the Hearts of Men?"

The primary set of opposites that forms the human soul is good and evil. This dialectic describes the essence of human existence. Evil without the counterbalancing good causes the soul to be ill formed resulting in narcissism and destructive behavior towards one's self and others.

You can not live in reverse, which is exactly what evil is – a drive toward death that seeks to reverse the natural impetus toward life. Interestingly enough, the English language just happens to provide what I think is an ideal illustration of the true definition of evil: 'evil' is 'live' spelled backward. And although the ultimate description of "devil" is that he once "lived" but now exists devoid of any life.

This is the definition of evil I find most meaningful when dealing with human nature. Evil arises from the universal human propensity toward selfishness. It is the cause of all war and disharmony through human history. It focuses on self-preservation at the expense of others. When your internal balance tilts toward evil, you begin to set yourself up as a god with dominion over everything in your universe. The lives of other creatures, especially other human beings, become insignificant and meaningless except as they play a role in serving to preserve your life and add to your personal increase. The resulting attitude and behavior towards creation sets the stage for conflict, struggle and revolt.

It is one of the mysterious ironies of humanity that when you focus exclusively on the preservation of your own life you actually wind up behaving in ways that gradually and imperceptibly destroy what you think you're protecting. Evil seeks to distract and eventually defeat the drive towards increasing life for all living things now and in the future by placing as intense interest in the defense of a single life.

Evil is diagnosed as much in a malevolent attitude toward life as it is in any wicked transgression or overt malfeasance. For example, do you know people who complain about the circumstances and events in their lives, who feel constantly put up by hardships, both real and imagined? They see their lives being manipulated by nefarious forces determined to make them miserable by thwarting them every dream and effort to improve their lives. Mark Twain's comment, "I've experienced a great many calamities in my life; most of them never happened," applies to these people in that they make their lives unduly difficult because that's what they expect life to be. It is something to be trudged through, struggled against and tediously endured with stoic resignation. When these people die, they're glad it's all over. This attitude is a manifestation of evil because it is antithetical to life. Evil only sees dearth and not abundance. It seeks death, not life.

Several years ago, I had the opportunity to get to know and love a young man who taught me much about life. Scott had inherited a terrible gene from his parents that caused his father and two brothers to die from a painful form of cancer before they had reached the age of 30. He was given a bit more time – he died at 32. You would be justified in calling this fate a manifestation of evil.

Although he would have been a wonderful father and wished to have a child and his wife decided not to have children because they did not want to take the chance of passing on his death gene to yet another generation. It was a courageous act of self-denial. I never hear Scott complain about the pain or the appropriate injustice of his situation. In fact, he would frequently say with a big grin, "I'm a happy camper!" Scott loved life and he wanted more than he knew he had to have. Neverheless, he lived in joy and gratitude and balanced the evil of his circumstances with the goodness of his attitude. I believe this attitude towards life prepared him to receive more of it after he died.

The Good Is not Any Better

Conversely, good without the tempering of its opposite results in a soul that Abraham Lincoln whimsically described: "It has been my experience that people who have no vices have very few virtues." Of course, vices and virtues are relative terms and I do not think Lincoln was speaking of anything other than human idiosyncrasies and certainly not of unmitigated evil. However, without a definitive respect for the evil that enterprises part of one's self, life becomes insipid, dull, disheartened, despairing, passionless and stunted in its significance. There's a healthy tension between good and evil that creates and sustains the human soul that, if dropped out of the nexus even slightly in either direction, causes deformation of character, distorted thinking and aberrant behavior.

You might think that it would be best for humanity and the world if the good within us were to completely overcome the evil within us. Ironically, when evil is omitted from the human equation life can actually manifest the evil it seeks to overcome or deny. Those who are horrified by the darkness they sense within them often will take great pains to exclude it from their consciousness thereby hopping to eradicate its existence altogether. Seeking to deal with evil by simply pretending that it does not exist actually creates the very circumstances out of which the dark side can better and more easily emerge into the world through our own actions.

Doug Hall, in his intriguing book, "The Reality of the Gospel and the Unreality of the Church," identifies the circumstances that could give rise to further evil in the world. He sees that human societies subconsciously seek to repress "the other side of the coin" of human existence. By means of their entertainment, social structures, media and often their religions they create alternate worlds in which there is only good, right, purity, brightness and nobility. He cites an advertisement found in the New York Times several decades ago inviting people to the "unreal" world of Disney World in Orlando, Florida. It is written as if a father were writing to a relative or friends back home in the "real" world.

"One of the biggest, events of the day was about to happen." A leading, leading process were Mickey and Minnie Mouse, followed by several marching bands and dozens of other famous Disney characters.

"Our children sat in amazement as President Lincoln got out of his chair. There before us was President Lincoln, as big as Life, speaking of the things that make countries great.
As he sat down again, the star-filled sky behind him began to turn red. White clouds gathered and stretched across in bands, leaving a patch of blue at the upper left portion of the sky. . .

"After the Hall of Presidents, the children wanted to see Fort Wilderness where we got another glimpse of our great heritage.

"We left civilization for a while after that and traveled on four famous rivers of the world. The captain of our jungle boat was safely guided us past hungry hippos, trumpet elephants and spear-clutching headhunters. laughed aloud as my wife and I ducked one of the elephants that exceeded to squirt water at us.

"Everyone who worked at Walt Disney World always seemed to be having as much fun as the visitors.
Walt Disney World was the kind of vacation our family will never forget. There was so much to see and experience. Together.

"And then comes the punch line, printed in bold capital letters so it will not be missed by all the anxious people:


Hall offers his interpretation of the contrast between the sanitized "clean" world of Disney and the polluted "dirty" world of real life filled with fear and filth and, at the same time, with gallant self-sacrifice and inspiring morality. He understands well that the means to deal effectively with the dichotomy at the heart of life are learned or not learned in childhood.

"I remembered that I had shown my children Buchenwald. I also remembered that as we sat outside the Ploetzensee Memorial in Berlin, while I told my young son about the courageous people who had been hanging there for resisting the Nazis, he began to cry and accused me: 'Daddy, you tell me the most horrible things!'

And when a people determines to protect itself and its children from them, it is quite probable that that people will become the cause of terrible things. "

We are fooling ourselves when we believe we are doing good by sanitizing or ignoring altogether the evil within us. It is as difficult to do as minting a coin with only one side or imagining a stick with only one end.

This is What We're Made Of

So this is what we're made of: good and evil, however they are defined. In order to be fully human and alive, our task is not to run away from the dark side or to help our good overcome our evil. Rather, we are to keep them in balance, just as each atom exists only by the perfect pairing of the negative and positive particles that surround it. The well-lived and effective life of significance is the one that maintains and appreciates the natural balance between good and evil without allowing one to gain prominence over the other for very long.

There are events, initiated by others or ourselves, that will cause us to be so repulsed by evil that we seek to destroy any vestiges of it we sense within ourselves and others. There are also events that seem to compel us, as the once good boy Darth Vader of the Star Wars film sagas would say, to "turn to the dark side," giving in to the path of little resistance by giving up our self-discipline to maintain personal balance. The call to each soul is to persevere and persistently attempt to restore the balance between good and evil whenever it is skewed by the events in our lives or the poor choices we make.

"Do Not Give Up"

I was walking near a beautiful stream recently in Independence, Missouri when I spotted those words that had been spray painted on a bridge abutment: "Do Not Give Up." I thought it interested that such sentiment would be written in a place usually crammed with juvenile expressions of love and lament and the menacing phrases and characters from gangs of anti-social youths. I'm sure it was meant to encourage walkers and runners along the path to continue in their efforts to improve their health and endurance. But it also reminded me that this motto is exactly what we all need to live by every day in all our activities and undertakings. Do not give up when it appears that it would be easier to do so. Do not give up when it looks that everything and everyone around you is strongly suggesting or even threatening you to do so. Do not give up in the face of seemingly insurmountable or "impossible" obstacles. Do not give up trying to balance your life even when something happens that lures you into thinking you've completely misunderstood the evil within you or or that moves you to want to simply give in to it.

What Does A Balanced Soul Look Like?

We've seen the disruptions and distortions that can occur in life when the balance is disturbed – in either direction. What happens when your soul is in balance? You experience what psychologists call "flow," where everything falls into the proper place, both mentally and physically. You experience creative energy and clarity of thought and direction that results in innovation and joy. Anything "new" stemming from human initiative arises out of remaining faithful to and faithfully in the tension between good and evil. This tension is truly the crucible of creativity.

I am not saying that you can only experience "flow" and creativity when you are in balance. I am saying that "flow" and innovation more often results whenever you have brought your good and evil into balance. You've no doubt heard that there is a strong connection between madness and artistry. I'm sure this can be true for external, visible art forms and expressions. However, the inner artist of the soul, out of which a flowing peacefulness, newness and joy are experienced, originates in the quiet balance between its opponent components.

Take Nothing For Granted

How do you create and sustain the balance? You take nothing for granted. You ask yourself every time you make a decision, "what will be the consequences for my internal balance and the lives of others who will be affected by this decision?" Every choice you make has consequences for everyone involved. Will the choices you make result in you and others becoming self-righteous, bitter, angry, fearful, arrogant, unapproachable, resentful, condescending, lethargic or vengeful? Will they help you and others become enthusiastic, confident, courageous, bold, accepting, forgiving, self-giving, loving? Examining both the intended and unintended consequences of our choices – both before and after making them – is the perpetual task of self-balancing.

Lest you think that this is all too much of a chore to do consistently and successfully please know that we do this all the time anyway without being aware of it. In order for this subconscious activity to be of any value as a tool to help us maintain our personal balance, we need to raise it to conscious awareness so that we can begin to take more control of its effects in our lives and in the lives of others.

We create the quality and legacy of our lives by the choices we make every day. These choices are shaped by what we consider to be possible and impossible. Can good and evil in your life ever be balanced in the "impossible" way I've described or must they forever war against each other? Is it impossible to live a full, joyful, peaceful and productive life within the tension between good and evil? If you think it is impossible, then the only possible alternative is to be caught up in the battle between the two such that you experience life as a chaotic cycle of ups and downs, highs and lows, with only sporadic spells of serenity.

I call your attention to a statement that Jesus of Nazareth made when talking about how to treat those who do you evil. After saying that it is easy for anyone to love his / her neighbor, he proclaims that you should actually "love your enemy and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be like your father in heaven, since he causes the sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the right and the unrighteous. " (Matthew 5: 43-45). This is tantamount to say that you thought was impossible. If you think something is impossible, you will not try to do it.

Jesus was challenging his hearers to rethink what was possible for them to do. He knew that people experience good and evil on a personal and not an abstract level. His challenge was not that we should be exactly as God is, but rather to look at the good within us as originating from God and as the only proper response to evil. When this occurs, evil is counterbalanced with good and the resulting reality is one of peace, harmony and "flow."

Abraham Lincoln summed it up well when he asked, "Am I not destroying my enemies when I make friends of them?" Impossible? It depends on what you think. As Henry Ford said, "if you think you can or you can not, you're right!"

Homemade Residential Wind Turbine

I have always considered myself an environmental enthusiast. I recycle, I drive a car that gets good gas mileage, and I plant trees for arbor day. Not Captain Planet by any means but I am always looking for little things to do to help out. One day I was doing some research online about how much electricity my family uses and discovered these things called Residential Wind Turbines.

I knew what wind mills were. I also knew that there were large industrial wind generators in the dessert that generated electricity, but I never actually thought about how I could use a Residential Wind Turbine at my own house. My first thought was "how to build a residential wind turbine"? As I looked more closely at these homemade wind turbines I realized that one was not that hard to build. I had the tools in my garage and I found some very reasonably priced plans from the internet. So I thought I would give it a shot. I found the parts for my homemade residential wind turbine at local stores and went to work.

It was a little intimidating at first since I was going to try and build it myself, but right off the bat my WHOLE family wanted to be involved. Also, as the project developed the more people I told the more people wanted to come over and check it out. "How are you going to make my own electricity from wind power?" they would say. It was a fun project. It taught the kids about how wind powered electricity works, and it was something I could work on when I had the time. Now it works great at I really had a feeling of achievement when it was done. A residential wind turbine typically lowers your electricity bill by 50 to 90 percent. Most wind turbine owners with total-electric homes to have monthly utility bills of only $ 8 to $ 15 for nine months of the year. Are the eco-friendly? You Bet!

Wind turbines produce no pollution and by using wind power you will be offsetting pollution that would have been generated by your utility company. Over its life, a small residential wind turbine can offset approximately 1.2 tons of air pollutants and 200 tons of greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide and other gases which cause climate change). I did have some concern that the Electric Company may not allow me to hook a homemade wind turbine up but than discarded federal regulations (specifically, the Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act of 1978, or PURPA) REQUIRE utilities to connect with and PURCHASE power from small (less than 80 MW) wind energy systems. I hope that you all look into this a little further. There are so many positives you would be foolish not to.

You can make your own marine wind generator, and if you know where to look, it will cost you under $70. Now that’s not a trade off, that’s a pure gimme. It becomes a no brainer when your talking those kinds of prices for that kind of electrical output. Sure there is some DIY involved, and you’ll have to use that grey matter between your ears, but I’ve never met a boater that didn’t have to DIY something. Most typically it’s the electrical system anyway.

How to Construct a Wind Generator – Energy Blown Right In

Many persons when investigating solar and alternative energy sources probably have read enough by now in order to be interested in constructing a wind-powered generator for personalized use. There are various forms or models if you will of do-it-yourself wind-powered generators and you are best advised to fully investigate which model best suit your requirements. You can buy wind generators with some portions pre-built where other kits and instructions require you to build the wind-generator from start to finish.

Generally, the materials you will need in order to construct a wind generator include one generator or one direct current magnetized motor. The control system is essential in order to precisely monitor voltage stored inside the batteries and in further assuring the power resultant of the rotor blades turning is actually making the transformation into electric current.
