Grid tie failure can spin wind turbine out of control.

I was wondering what would happen if my turbine was completely grid tie to my family gird and the commercial grid fail.
My first impression was the turbine would spin out of control not seeing any load.
When ever the commercial grid return to service the grid tie inverter would burn out.
Those were some of my impression, what do you think?
Your ideas are welcome. Help me clear up that notion.

  1. You are correct, because you have one leg connected to the grid tie the other is connected to battery's it should never go out of control when connected to a battery.

  2. If you had invested $500.00 in solar panels you could be making 20 amps all day long.

    2 or 3 amps is not enough fro that much work. Solar is better I think.

  7. My 1000Watts of solar panels cost $650.00 and make 22 amps 12 hours a day here.

  9. I saw 4 amps not bad at all but solar would give you 24 amps all day long for the same money spent.

    there is no half in this! the gridty inverter take 100% off his maximum 1000w because it uses lower voltage than current battery voltage (meter 25v) and anything passing its 100% goes too battery (another controller with the amp/volt meter on its output?) upsssss ,the gridty charge controller is amps limited only 600w passing by! gridty maximum output down to 60% ,600w at 24v is 25amps plus battery 4amps? is 29amps total.

  15. I assume you are using a generator transfer switch to toggle between the commercial grid and the offgrid signal coming from the inverter. I assume this is not the States so I guess you are running 2 wire 240 50hz, not sure why you are burning the inverter unless there is too much overlap in the switch and you have 2 power sources competing, the grid will win and burn your stuff (got to have proper fusing).
    Your low amps has nothing to do with overspeed control by itself. Any mechanical system that rotates can spin out of control. The few amps produced are not enough to stop the hub if you short circuit the output terminals (magnetic braking) but it would help.
    Most important is to make sure you are harmonically balanced, if so it could go 10,000 rpm's and would only fail due to heat, friction and the structural limits of the blades. Need a little more info.

  16. I see only 2 wires on your junction blocks means you are taking DC power down tower. I would suggest bypassing the generator recitifier diodes and running the 3 phase power down tower, it will run more efficient with less loss for longer run.
    I also suggest wiring in a parallel bank of capacitors to help the inverter under high in rush loads. Parallel connect all your turbines through separate 3 phase recitiers, charge the capacitor bank and your inverter will work better.
    It needs more than 2 amps to run any real power, caps will greatly help.
